Fresh, Effortless Beauty—And Tata Harper—Backstage At Organic By John Patrick
Most editors are more than a little peeved about the rain that has been forecast for New York fashion week, but Tata Harper couldn’t be happier. “This weather is actually really good for the skin. It’s very humid so it’s hydrating,” the natural skincare guru told us this morning backstage at Organic by John Patrick, where she was giving models mini-facials with her Regenerating Cleanser, Rejuvenating Serum, and Replenishing Nutrient Complex. “It’s so important,” Harper said of the growing trend in New York that’s pairing designers not just with hair and makeup sponsors but skincare sponsors as well. “The models are bombarded with so many chemicals,” she lamented of the back-to-back show schedule that mandates the constant putting on and taking off of makeup. “I can make skin radiant with skincare, not makeup.”
Harper’s presence also happened to be a boon to the “fresh and effortless” beauty look Patrick and his makeup artist Min Min were after, one that was achieved with a mixture of MAC cream blushes dotted with Aquaphor. “Super-simple, very organic” hair followed suit, courtesy of stylist Yoichi, who used “almost no product” to achieve a natural kind of texture.
As a finishing touch, Harper coated models’ exposed arms and legs with her Revitalizing Body Oil “for a bit of sheen” before imparting these words of wisdom: “In the rain, a mist, like my Hydrating Floral Essence, will set makeup.” Soggy fashion warriors, take note.
