Beautiful Lives: François Nars
The Ultimate Getaway Pad
When he's not channeling Visconti or Fellini, Nars is likely preoccupied with thoughts of Motu Tane, the island he bought in French Polynesia in 2000 after falling in love with the region on a trip to Bora Bora. He says his home away from home, where he spends one to five months a year, helps "recharge his battery"—and helps him dream up eye shadow and lipstick shades, of course. "Makeup artists are almost like painters," he muses. "We need to be inspired by our surroundings, and here, nature is so extravagant. It keeps me creative, fresh, new, and modern."
