The Beautiful Life of Illamasqua's Alex Box

Body of Work
By the time she reached Chelsea College of Art in the nineties, Box was using her body and other people's bodies as her canvas. "I liked the idea of being able to manipulate the way people perceived their face and their bodies within environments. My friends said, 'What you're really doing is makeup—and it would look really good in fashion shows.' " But before the shows came the magazine editorials—early opportunities at i-D and Dazed & Confused, where a pre-Gaga stylist Nicola Formichetti picked up on Box's work and introduced her to Gareth Pugh.
