Beautiful Lives: Christiaan

Name Game
Moonlighting at the Intercontinental Hotel's beauty salon in Curaçao, the young Christiaan found his eyes opened, and fast. "They'd come with pictures from Vidal Sassoon—hairstyles I'd never seen before." As his skills grew, so did his cred. While on leave in Aruba, Christiaan befriended the president of a famous oil company, Kurt Weill—not to be confused with the German composer of the same name, living in New York. But Glamour editor Amy Greene, left, did in fact confuse the two—and their wives. Thinking that she had received a letter of personal recommendation from Mrs. Kurt Weill, the Broadway star Lotte Lenya, she immediately invited Christiaan to New York.
