A Civilized Cleanse, Complete With Massage Chair

August 27, 2008  4:56 pm

With the popularity of the Master Cleanse, it would seem logical for health buffs to apply the same periodic toxin-purging mentality from their colons towards other parts of the body notorious for harboring build-up. In this regard, David Evangelista of the David Evangelista Salon at Cornelia Day Resort is a vanguard of sorts, pioneering a scalp treatment that he prescribes for “cleansing your coif.” Relying on the exfoliating and restorative powers of clay, Evangelista created an intensive ritual that he recommends as a great end-of-summer remedy for hair that is dried out and dull from a little too much fun in the sun (and saltwater, and chlorine). “I push it hardest during season changes, when you need to remove debris so the hair can breathe,” he says of the regimen that includes a clay shampoo massaged into the scalp—first with fingers and then with a rubberized brush for maximum build-up removal—followed by a clay mask treatment that is applied from roots to ends, wrapped in plastic, and left to work its healing magic for another 15 minutes (Evangelista leaves the massaging salon chairs on while you wait, of course). In addition to promising better hair growth and increased shine, the treatment also comes with a complimentary blow-out—so you get clean and straight hair, which certainly tops ten days of starvation.

  1. I’ve tried some of the Cornelia products and they are lovely but this sounds sooo pampering! If I get to NYC soon, I’ll have to make an appointment.
