The Doctor Is In

A Word On Swelling from Dr. Airan

September 12, 2008  3:56 pm

This column features weekly tips and advice from a revolving cast of industry leaders, on hand to discuss your beauty dilemmas, from blemishes to Botox. The following query was culled from a private stock, but we’ll be accepting readers’ questions soon.

What’s the best way to reduce inflammation of blemishes?

The absolute best way to reduce swelling from breakouts is to inject the cyst with kenalog. Within 24 hours it will be gone. If you can’t get in to see your doctor, though, the best thing to do is to just leave it alone and not make a bigger mess of the situation—it will go away more quickly. If you want, you could also apply something topically, like Differin gel, but don’t go the “home surgery” route because it’s a big mistake.

A certified member of the American Board of Dermatology and the National Board of Medical Examiners, Dr. Lisa Airan takes a holistic approach to aging and beauty, specializing in cosmetic dermatology combined with counseling in the areas of stress, exercise, diet, and spirituality.
