Diamond Dolls At Vera Wang

September 12, 2008  1:23 pm

Let it be known: Lucia Pieroni is officially bored of tan, bronzed skin for Spring, which might be why the makeup artist opted for “milky—not matte, not dewy—milky” skin backstage at Vera Wang yesterday. Inspired by the faceted jewelry and sparkling diamonds in Wang’s collection, Pieroni thought, “cool, pale, and interesting” when designing a makeup concept for the show, achieved with a few unusual application techniques worth sharing here. For eyes that flickered down the runway, Pieroni applied silver shadow to the center of the models’ lids only, adding water to shades from Clé de Peau Beauté’s smoky eye color quad for a very metallic, opaque finish. To make sure all the girls were beaming (literally), she used a pink/nude lipstick topped with clear, sparkly gloss, which she also blended from models’ temples to around their cheekbones for a high-shine effect. Yes, I was hesitant to accept her lip-gloss-on-the-face endorsement at first, too, but if you make sure the gloss is very well blended, it can actually look really chic (see above).
