Pat McGrath’s Baby Blues At Gucci

For beauty editors and consumers of affordable cosmetics alike, there are many reasons to love makeup artist Pat McGrath. First and foremost, her friendly-even-in-the-throes-of -backstage-chaos demeanor keeps her among editors’ favorites. And her unmatched ability at coming up with new design concepts—which typically include bold experiments with color—are enough to giver her No. 1 status (sorry, Dick Page). You, however, most likely adore the British face-painter for the expertise she lends to CoverGirl cosmetics every season as creative director for P&G. McGrath personally formulates new palettes for what is perhaps the best catwalk-to-sidewalk collaboration available at your local Rite-Aid. With this in mind, we’d like to take a moment to direct your attention to yesterday’s Gucci show, where she reinterpreted the smoky eye using—yes, that’s right—turquoise and blue shadows for a look that’s bright and springlike without sacrificing the sultry severity of the more standard black and gray version (thanks to heavy helpings of black liner and mascara). Luckily, you won’t have to wait until March to take your own azure test run: The pigments she crafted for CoverGirl’s new Eye Enhancers 4-Kit Shadows are currently available for your trial-and-error pleasure.
