Rocca Skincare, As Good As Gold

September 18, 2008  6:43 pm

Sometimes, the best ideas happen when we least expect them. For Laura LaRocca, founder of cult cosmetics line DuWop, a recent “ah hah!” moment came when she found herself crippled by total kidney failure. In search of a cure, she turned to natural remedies and discovered the restorative powers of gold. Once she recovered from her illness she was determined to bring the precious metal’s healing capabilities to the masses—resulting in Rocca Skincare, which launches this month. Based on the idea of combining the power of nature with the best scientific technology available, the serum, eye cream, moisturizer, and cleanser all possess the founder’s patented Cellular Gold Complex, which fights the effects of aging with 24K micronized gold particles that help regenerate skin cells, hyaluronic acid for intense moisturizing, and stabilized vitamin C for antioxidant protection. The cleanser (a personal favorite) also includes orange oil and finely ground diatomaceous earth (that would be exfoliation courtesy of microscopic dirt particles that pack the added punch of fossilized algae remains). In addition to a reasonable price point—products range from $75 to $150; hey, it’s gold we’re talking about here—Rocca also complies with all of the eco-friendly requirements you’ve likely placed on your newly greenified grooming routine: biodegradable formulas, check. Post-consumer recyclable packaging, check. Socially responsible, check (3 percent of profits from all sales are donated to the National Kidney Foundation).
