For California Girls With Curls, Salvation Has Arrived

October 15, 2008  4:08 pm

Despite their reputation for having perma-tans and long, golden corn-silk hair, there are in fact many Southern California natives who break this mythical mold. For the pale, curly-haired minority, redemption is coming courtesy of New York’s “Queen of Curl,” Ouidad. Her 57th Street flagship in midtown Manhattan is a beacon for the legions that consider her book, Curl Talk, something of a bible. This week, her new salon in Santa Monica finally opens, making the hair healer’s words of wisdom and specialized styling prowess accessible from sea to shining sea. Her new digs have more of a boutique feel, with just four styling chairs. But the same kind of textured-hair expertise available at her East Coast mainstay will come standard here, too, with a team of stylists fully versed in Ouidad’s patented “carve and slice” trimming technique as well as her “rake and shake” styling approach.
The Ouidad Salon on Montana Avenue is located at 1230 Montana Avenue, Santa Monica, Calif. For more information, call (310) 393-3542.

  1. Many years when I lived in Manhattan, I visited the Ouidad Salon, expecting sage advice and hair treatment. Ouidad was extremely rude and I was treated quite badly. How awful that bad behavior is rewarded with success!
