peace, love and the end of bumpy skin

With a list of ingredients that includes “shea butter, beeswax, ground nut oil, frankincense, love, and peaceful karma,” Isle of Paradise’s Treasure of the East has granola written all over it. Add to this its pared-down packaging and the homespun label’s promise “for the enhancement of natural beauty” and you might easily (very easily) write off this yellow salve as strictly for the patchwork pants-wearing set. But anyone who suffers from KP (short for keratosis pilaris, a.k.a. “chicken skin,” or the tiny white or red bumps that frequently appear on backs of arms and legs) might want to withhold judgment, difficult as that may be. Developed by a team of herbalists and naturalists with “deep appreciation for the blessing of the earth and all it has to offer,” the moisturizer-cum-body-butter-cum-skin-oil is free of fillers, chemical additives, or animal substances yet is somehow more effective than the leading prescription lactic-acid creams marketed to those who suffer from KP. Treasure of the East goes on a bit greasy at first but there’s something cathartic about moisturizing its natural goodness into thirsty skin until it dries down. After about a week of use, you’ll definitely notice that skin is smoother and softer—you might even have an overwhelming desire to kick around the Hacky Sack.
