This column features weekly tips and advice from a revolving cast of industry leaders, on hand to discuss your beauty dilemmas, from blemishes to Botox. The following query was culled from a private stock, but we’ll be accepting readers’ questions soon.
What do you recommend for diminishing the appearance of stretch marks?
Diminishing the appearance of stretch marks is difficult. Temporarily, some devices claim to reduce the appearance, but generally once the treatments have ended the appearance of the stretch marks goes back to pre-treatment levels. Stretch marks are basically a distortion of the skin—if you grow quickly, like if you get pregnant, you can experience a permanent change in the skin. Unfortunately, individual tendencies for this condition are genetic and there’s little you can do to get rid of them permanently once they appear. You can use lasers to change the color of a red stretch mark, however, so that it is more flesh-toned.
