the smell of bill blass couture

Bill Blass has entered the designer fragrance game—actually, make that the couture fragrance game. In the brand’s first foray into scent, it released Bill Blass Couture 1, 3, 6, and 7 last week, exclusively at Saks Fifth Avenue. Inspired by fashion, each of the four perfumes is an ode to a different couture dress from the label, with fabrics from each look printed on the bottles to correspond with the specific ingredient compositions inside. To wit, the white tuberose print from a simple, retro-chic day dress is the main note in Couture 1, while the scent of velvet sandalwood in Couture 3 has its ties to a timeless evening gown from the Fall ‘07 collection. Couture 6 and 7, with their hints of Moroccan rose and island cedrat, respectively, are meant to pay homage to dresses from the ‘08 Resort line. If all goes according to plan, a new series of fragrances will be released every season, featuring stand-out pieces from the runway. S/S ‘09 is apparently already in the works. We’re willing to bet it includes a whole host of fruity-floral offerings.
