Beauty Insider

Viktor & Rolf, flamethrowers

October 2, 2008  3:57 pm

The idea of wearing orange makeup confounds many a beauty devotee. And if Viktor & Rolf’s virtual presentation, yesterday offers any guidance to laywomen, it’s that only those with the name Shalom Harlow should attempt it. But the color also popped up in similar ways at Rodarte, where it was extended from the eyes to the temples. MAC makeup artist James Kaliardos, who was behind the look, advised focusing on proportion and placement to avoid a “playing in the crayon box” feel when trying this one out at home. “If you show mostly flesh, instead of an entire eye of bright color, it can still look chic and translucent,” he said of the orange accents he put on the outer corners of models’ eyes. So go ahead and give the V&R version a try if you must, but in our estimation, it’s one of those things that’s only super (and in this case, super-duper)-model-friendly.
