Don’t Fear Face Oils

Winter appears to be upon us, or at least it’s teasing us with blustery cold and threats of snow, and as a result your skin is probably experiencing a range of emotions, including dry, flaky, blotchy, and dull. At least mine is, but I’ve had increasing success treating these issues with an unlikely hero: I give you, face oil. Adding a few drops of a nourishing emollient like Jurlique’s Skin Balancing Face Oil to your morning moisturizer or SPF product might be just the answer you and your schizophrenic complexion are looking for. (Note: A solo nighttime slather will add radiance and give your skin a more supple texture when you get up in the morning and subsequently stumble over the cord to your space heater because, that’s right, the heat in your apartment is still not turned on.) Look for something lightweight that absorbs quickly, and the more natural ingredients you can pack in, the better, especially for evening applications. I’ve been adding the biodynamic blend of chamomile, calendula, marshmallow, and rose extracts in Jurlique’s oil to my foundation before functions, too, for sheered-down coverage with just a touch of shine. It’s the perfect trick for makeup minimalists who want to look warm and dewy even when the temperature dips below freezing.
