Makeup, Unscripted

While shows like Blow Out and Shear Genius have made the drama of real-life hairdressing familiar to TV-obsessed Americans nationwide, the reality show goldmine of the face-painting business has somehow managed to remain untapped. To fill this void, Lifetime is launching Blush, a new competition that’s looking to crown “the next great makeup artist.” With contestants living under one roof in Los Angeles, the show includes a series of different makeup challenges in which one contestant faces elimination (and public shame) at the end of each hour-long episode. At stake in the series is a contract with Max Factor, a cash prize of $100,000, and the opportunity to work on an upcoming InStyle photo shoot—not to mention bragging rights. It’s unclear if makeup artists are as catty as their coiffing counterparts, though we’ll likely find out when the show debuts tomorrow night at 10 p.m. (Without the scissors, flammable aerosols, and hot irons, the risk of “accidental” injury is certainly minimized).
