It’s Business As Usual For Dita At Dior

January 27, 2009  12:38 pm

Is it us, or are you also slightly over Dita Von Teese and her self-appointed title as the new bearer of burlesque? There she was, sitting front row at Dior Couture with her signature alabaster skin, darkened brow, lined lids, and crimson lip, and all we could think was, doesn’t the whole thing ever get, well, tedious? Furthermore, what does Ms. Von Teese look like when she’s away from the paparazzi photo lenses? Do you think she just throws on a pair of sweat pants, goes makeup-free, and puts her hair up in a messy bun? Or is that face painted on at all times, that hair always set, and those wiggle dresses merely replaced by silk dressing gowns (or maybe a kimono?) when she “unwinds” at home? Someone please enlighten us.

  1. Actually I love that her idea of dressing casually doesn’t involve sloppy sweats or sloppy hair and that she does her own makeup. Plus I appreciate anyone who knows what they like, sticks to it and doesn’t feel the need to change their appearance all the time according to whatever is trendy.

  2. I completely agree with FrancoiseZooey. Some people don’t need a new look, they know they like and stick to it. That’s how style icons are made. Jackie O didn’t look in the mirror and say “Let’s switch it up today. I wanna try punk.”

  3. I agree with the other two posts completely. Also, there are pictures of her on the web without all the makeup on. She is actually very naturally beautiful.

  4. I will enlighten you… in the subcultural world of burlesque/pin up/rockabilly, dressing this way *never* really gets old. The idea of wearing sweat pants and a messy pony bun is somewhat repugnant, as the idea is to look your best at all times-hearkening back to a time when women wanted to look beautiful for the sake of it.
