La Mer, Sting Anticipate World Ocean Day
Last night at the Madison Avenue apartment of socialite, philanthropist, and Ultimate Style auteur Bettina Zilkha, La Mer officially announced the launch of its limited-edition Crème in honor of World Ocean Day. (In case you haven’t penciled it into your planner, it falls on June 8.) This marks the second year that the luxury skincare brand has partnered with Oceana, the leading international ocean advocacy group, to celebrate the organization’s environmental strides. “One of the tenants of luxury going forward is giving back,” La Mer president Maureen Case said. The company will donate 100 percent of the net proceeds of its commemorative Crème to Oceana’s Habitat Protection Campaign and its 2009 Ranger Expedition, in which teams of divers and marine biologists gather research that can be used to protect ocean habitats. In attendance to launch the product—which hits counters for a two-month engagement in May—were Oceana activists Jeff Goldblum; a seemingly hipsterfied Sting, with shaggy brown hair and an impressive full brown beard (a look that did not help us with our occasional staring problem); and Sam Waterston, a.k.a. Jack McCoy, whose remote affiliation with La Mer might just be the best celebrity endorsement it has: The man looks exactly the same as he did in Law & Order episodes from 15 seasons ago.
