Later this week, we’ll launch our January installment of The Look, a beauty feature in which we flesh out a trend that we’ve deemed worthy of the spotlight. This time around, curls take the stage. Not since Andie MacDowell’s late-eighties heyday—remember Sex, Lies, and Videotape?—have we seen hair this big and bouncy. Call it the trickle-up effect of the fashion world’s embrace of the era, but curly hair is popping up on the runway, on the red carpet, and in an increasingly large number of editorial spreads—take, for instance, Numéro magazine’s “Magie noire” story featuring a barely recognizable Jessica Stam with a frizzy coif courtesy of hairstylist Peter Gray.
