Attention Fashion Warriors: A Haven For Your Weary Bodies Awaits

Being able to lay claim to the title of New York’s largest luxury spa is nothing to sneeze at. But the new Peninsula Spa by ESPA, is vying to become New York’s best luxury spa as well. Officially opening its doors in January after a complete renovation, the three-floor, 35,000-square-foot temple of relaxation designed by New York-based architect Alexandra Champalimaud features a fitness center, a glass-enclosed pool with panoramic views of the city, and other dramatic design elements that the spa director described to us as “next level” on a recent visit. And how. Twenty-four-karat-gold Bisazza tiling lines the thermal facility, which includes a marbleized ice fountain that sits between a Finnish sauna, aromatherapy steam room, and “experience shower,” where multiple showerheads ensconce your body with warm or cold water at the same time. And then there’s the full range of services, from a host of exclusive body ceremonies, like the “jet-lag eliminator,” which uses specialized oils and hand movements to help regulate your body’s internal clock, to facials based around ESPA’s new Super Active line, a highly advanced collection of products made from 100 percent natural ingredients. What really wowed us, though, were the men’s and women’s relaxation rooms, which give a whole new meaning to therapists’ “take all the time you need to get ready” post-treatment parting words. These separate areas boast four single beds—topped by the whitest, fluffiest duvets we’ve ever seen—a selection of magazines, dried fruit and nuts to snack on, and a fridge filled with complimentary plain and coconut water to further deliver your body from a state of stress to total bliss. It’s the perfect venue for recharging from the week that just was.
