Chanel’s New Product-Testing Philosophy: Sink Or Swim
February 27, 2009 3:59 pm

The marketing folks at Chanel are apparently pretty confident in the brand’s new Hydramax + Active Gel Cream, due out next week. Seeing as how the lightweight moisturizer’s main selling point is a Hydrabarrier System Complex that helps prevent water from evaporating once it has been absorbed into the skin, they’ve partnered with the U.S. Olympic synchronized swimming team to put the product to the ultimate test. Battered by chlorine, frequent sun exposure, and increased environmental pollutants, the swimmers were given Hydramax for two weeks to treat their parched skin while training. The verdict? “I love the scent!” was common praise for the cool, refreshing gel, which “soaks in very quickly,” according to a few acolytes, and “keeps skin hydrated longer.” A collective “two thumbs up” was the general consensus poolside, which is a pretty good endorsement, with summer fun on the (seemingly endless) horizon.
