For Fall, The Lips Have It

February 26, 2009  8:08 pm

With the style set firmly relocated to Milan, the Fall show season has reached its halfway point. That said, we’ve seen enough presentations to convince us that there are three lip colors that are going to be essential to your makeup bag. First, there’s the gray scale, variations on sheered-out black and opaque grays that we’ve already discussed at length on Beauty Counter. Next up is blood orange, a trail that was blazed in New York at Rag & Bone, Karen Walker, and Zac Posen, then promptly followed across the pond at Charles Anastase, Kinder Aggugini, Mark Fast, and Giles. Deep berry hues are our latest obsession, though—a trend that started slow, teetering on the edge of black at Rachel Roy. It picked up speed at House of Holland (where lips were described backstage as “midnight purple”), Paul Smith Women, and Graeme Black, before sharing the catwalk with orange at Mark Fast. Whichever way you choose to go come September, now might be a good time to start practicing your liner technique.
