For Tilda Swinton, Less Is More

February 5, 2009  12:19 pm

Aside from her stellar acting ability and seemingly great sense of humor (remember that jab she took at Clooney during her Oscar acceptance speech last year?), we’re fascinated by Tilda Swinton because the woman seems to be entirely opposed to wearing any makeup at all—and she gets away with it. Not once but twice we spied the 48-year-old on the red-carpet circuit this week, first at the Evening Standard Film Awards and then last night at a photo call for the Berlin International Film Festival, for which she serves as jury president. On both occasions, the Academy Award winner appeared sans the dark lip and smoky eye that typically accompany such outings, choosing perfectly flawless skin as the only complement to her short, flame red hair. Are you as impressed as we are or do you think a little color application wouldn’t kill her?

  1. I am impressed. I rarely see any women getting away with this look but she looks illuminating.

  2. There is something so otherworldly about her face that I think any sort of overt makeup would distract from it. Although I have to admit I would love to see just how gorgeous she could look with a bit of smoky eye.

  3. oh, htat skin is gorgeous. But all I ever think is, “Put some makeup on!” She’s SOOO washed out.
