Investment Pieces, In Beauty Terms

“Statement clothing and investment pieces are more important now than ever,” Luca Luca creative director Raul Melgoza told us yesterday before his show. “And that hair works the same way,” Melgoza said, gesturing at Edward Tricomi of the new Warren Tricomi salon in the Plaza Hotel, who was drying, setting, and brushing out soft waves reminiscent of old Hollywood. “It’s glamorous but still versatile,” he explained. Makeup artist James Kaliardos provided makeup of the statement-making variety by creating what he termed a “bloody red lip,” achieved with a MAC Lip Pencil in Currant, for a berry outline that that was a shade or two darker than the Crimson Lipmix he brushed within its confines. “This isn’t so much retro glamour as just a classic look,” Kaliardos said. And there you have it: A bouncy blow-out and an epic red lip should be enough to hold you over until economic prosperity returns.
