Thirty Years Of Hair Mastery, Now Available For Purchase

Oribe Canales (who is known by his first name only) is just about as famous as a hair stylist can get. In the eighties, he was part of an editorial triumvirate that included makeup artist François Nars and photographer Steven Meisel. In the early nineties, he rolled with the original supers, coiffing Naomi and Linda on a regular basis. And later in the decade, after spearheading Jennifer Lopez’s glam makeover, he wound up on her “must-have” list for appearances and premieres. But with the recent release of his own haircare line, you could say that he’s outdone himself. “After so many years of working as a salon stylist and fashion stylist, in many ways I’ve become a chemist myself by mixing products together to achieve a variety of desired results,” he says. Royal Blowout, a spray mist that minimizes drying time and delivers intense shine and softness; Gel Serum, a gel with conditioning ingredients for a strong hold without stiffness; and Smooth Style, a moisture cream that utilizes the hydration power of Swiss skincare technology, number among the hair guru’s favorites, but the range has something for every style. If you didn’t know Oribe’s credentials, the packaging alone would sell you, and so could the scents; each bottle’s contents are layered with a subtle fragrance designed exclusively for the collection by Givaudan. “It’s basically me in a bottle,” the stylist quips.
