A Chanel Beauty Boutique? Only In Your Dreams…And In Tokyo

March 17, 2009  3:07 pm

Calling all beauty-obsessed Japanophiles: Here’s yet another reason to make that pilgrimage to the Land of the Rising Sun. Next month, Chanel will open its first storefront devoted entirely to its cult fragrances, color collection, and skincare line in Tokyo’s posh Aoyama district. Designed by architect Peter Marino (who also worked on the Chanel Ginza building), the store is rumored to be “unlike any existing beauty store,” not to mention the largest Chanel store of its kind. The design plan strictly adheres to the brand’s iconic color scheme, with a facade built out of black and beige see-through glass, emblazoned with white Chanel logos. The interior of the store follows suit, divided into three color-coded sections: white, where the makeup will be displayed on floor-to-ceiling walls; black, a fragrance area that will stock the company’s full lineup of products, including the hard-to-find Les Exclusifs flacons; and beige, which will be devoted to skincare. In addition to an unprecedented retail experience, customers will also be privy to exclusive product previews as well as a menu of services performed on site. One can only hope that a New York flagship is in the works.
