Footnotes: Prepping For Sandal Season
March 5, 2009 4:09 pm

For a recent jaunt to Florida, we delved into our collection of open-toed sling-backs for the first time in nearly six months and witnessed the horror that was the condition of our not-nearly-ready-for-sandals foot situation. Semi-regular pedicures aside, the persistently frigid temperatures that have relegated us to a boots-only lifestyle since October have taken a toll on our heels, which are more dry and cracked than we are comfortable to admit. So after a consultation with our pedicurist, Sandy at Grand Relax Center in Brooklyn, we have the following information to share for a simple way to start prepping for the summer weather that, God willing, is on its way:
- Satisfying as it may be to have all of that dead skin sloughed off your feet with a razor at the salon, frequent shaving only causes a thicker callous to form in the long run.
- Committing to an at-home pumice regimen is a better bet and is most effective when skin is damp, not wet, so scrub vigorously after you get out of the shower.
- Apply a rich, moisturizing treatment to heels after exfoliation. Farmhouse Fresh’s Honey Heel Glaze is a good, natural option that relies on honey, aloe leaf juice, and pineapple and papaya extracts for a surprisingly non-greasy formula that gives an ultra-smooth finish.
