Lip Balm And Music Videos Form A United Front Against HIV

When AIDS was identified in the eighties, it gave rise to a multi-front awareness campaign. After an onslaught of commercials, school seminars, and public outreach programs, if you were having sex, you were likely using protection. But now there’s a new wave of cases as people too young to remember the initial shock-and-awe phase are taking more risks. A surprising bit of statistical data reveals that 3,000 people are infected with HIV every day—and nearly half of all new cases are among 15-to-24-year-olds. To help get the word out that AIDS is still very much an epidemic that can be controlled by adhering to a simple “no glove, no love” policy, the Body Shop is teaming up with MTV to launch an exclusive Tantalising Lip Butter, which goes on sale today and funds HIV/AIDS education and prevention. One hundred percent of the $8 retail price of each pot of balm goes to the Staying Alive Foundation, a charity that empowers young people around the world to protect themselves and their communities against the disease. And for doing your part, you get to benefit from a lip-smoothing formula fortified with dragonfruit extracts, fair-trade shea butter, and organic beeswax—it’s really a win-win.
