New Jersey Gets Involved With The Hair Down There
March 17, 2009 3:14 pm

This past weekend, a shudder was felt all along the Jersey shore, where bikini season looms ever closer. A proposed state-wide ban on Brazilian bikini waxes is on the table for the next meeting of the New Jersey State Board of Cosmetology and Hairstyling, which means that the thousands of women (and a few scantily clad men) who flock to beaches from Seaside Heights to Atlantic City every summer might need to invest in some new cover-ups come June. Apparently, genital waxing has always been illegal by New Jersey state statutes, which only allow waxing of the face, neck, arms, legs, and abdomen, although as Philly.com reports, almost every salon in South Jersey has been breaking the law for years—and charging $50 to $60 a session while they’re at it. The proposed ban was apparently prompted by complaints from two women who were injured and hospitalized after a recent depilatory episode, and has since caused a regional uproar. The board meets again on April 14 to decide the fate of the well-manicured members of the Garden State, but in the interim, New York- and Philadelphia-area salons should prepare for an onslaught of new clients should the ruling be passed.

The NJ Board already met on 3/10 and voted NO. People are mis informed and thinking that the April 14th, they will discuss it again, this is not true, it is now in the hands of the Division of Law and we are writing letters for them to investigate to accept the ASSP position paper on the issue because the rules also exclude Back and Chest Waxing for men.
