Eva Scrivo’s Western Expansion

With the opening of her West 13th Street salon last week, Eva Scrivo has officially gone bicoastal. The new Meatpacking District location is her second in Manhattan, joining her already popular Bond Street haunt. We hadn’t seen the stylist/colorist/radio personality since she wowed us with her handiwork backstage at Catherine Malandrino, so we jumped at the chance to check out her new digs. With its beamed ceilings, original columns, espresso-stained oak floors, and full wall of street-facing windows, the 5,000-square-foot loft space did not disappoint. And neither will the 13 styling stations, VIP area for celebrity guests, and larger room for private parties (with retractable projector screen for movies and such). As for the expert stylists who will be commuting cross-town between salons, we had the pleasure of a quick session with senior stylist Kaz, and he was one of the few people we’ve ever encountered who actually adhered to our “just a trim” request. New Yorkers familiar with this particular stretch of cobblestones might be wondering how Scrivo is dealing with her new neighbor, the behemoth House of Bumble, which is literally next door. “There’s no competition there,” the stylist says, unfazed. “It’s a community—it’s sort of like when Chanel and Gucci are next to each other on the same street.” (In this analogy, we’d say Scrivo plays the Chanel role; she’s got a very classic, no-nonsense Coco vibe going on that we totally admire.)
