Chanel Commandeers Cinco de Mayo

We went to a highly DL event a few months back to preview the new Chanel No. 5 cinemercial, Train de Nuit, directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet. The short film features Audrey Tautou, who replaces Nicole Kidman and Keira Knightley as the latest actress to co-star alongside the iconic fragrance. As it turns out, that press embargo they made us sign was every bit necessary. When we left the screening, all we wanted to do was talk about the beautifully shot tale of chance and fate—his glance, her scent, that fantastic assortment of high-waisted trousers. Seeing as how it officially debuted on the Chanel Web site today, we can finally talk. (It’s so good! You must watch.) In honor of the unveiling, Chanel has partnered with Saks Fifth Avenue for a host of promotional events, compelling New York City to declare today Chanel No. 5 Day and rename a portion of Fifth Avenue “Avenue No. 5″ through May 10. During this time, Saks will also be dedicating the exterior and interior of its store to the fragrance, prominently displaying bottles of it and running the full film on loop on the main floor. The department store has made a generous donation to Manhattan’s Ellen Lurie Elementary School (a.k.a P.S. 5) as well, to fund after-school art initiatives. Click here to watch the film, and feel free to gush below.
