DermTV Launches, House Calls Go Virtual
From Dobermans on waterslides to loopy kids, YouTube’s “Broadcast Yourself” tagline has made instant stars out of unsuspecting characters. But you don’t necessarily need to up the outrageous factor to secure a viewing audience. The Web site’s how-to, educational video channels are also churning out a whole new crop of celebrities in the making, and the beauty category is no exception. Stay-at-home mom turned self-taught makeup artist Lauren Luke managed to attract over 39 million viewers to her instructional step-by-step makeup guides and subsequently launched an eponymous line of cosmetics. New York-based cosmetic/medical dermatologist Dr. Neal Schultz hopes to achieve similar success with his new show, DermTV. The concept is simple: skincare Q&As that are under five minutes long and cover topics ranging from antiaging and sun-damage protection to general skincare maintenance. In the latest episode, Dr. Schultz tackles sunscreen application (yes, you need to reapply, and yes, you need to apply liberally). It’s sort of like our “Doctor Is In” column, but you have the opportunity to put a face to a name. Click here for more information.
