For MAC, New Iconic Colors—And Icons
May 21, 2009 2:11 pm

You’ve got to hand it to MAC. Not only has it set the bar for makeup in the digital age (it was one of the first cosmetics companies to put up its own Facebook page and ask its artists to Twitter backstage at fashion week), but it also continues to put out bold color collections that make us truly believe that, yes, we do in fact need another sheer gold lip gloss. Its new Style Warrior collection, which is based around a theme of cross-cultural beauty intended to channel the “African Queen” and “Amazon Princess” in us all—or so the press release says—hit counters yesterday, and is no exception. There are new seasonal shades of lipstick and Lipglass, along with complementary nail lacquers, eye shadows, blushes, and Solar Bits loose metallic pigments, as well as powder and liquid bronzers. It’s your typical summer makeup fare, although compacts adorned with coordinating tribal and animal prints set MAC’s offerings apart. And for those of you who are friends with the company on Facebook, some more news: To help bolster your virtual relationships, it also just debuted “Beauty Mark” icons. We haven’t quite reached icon-application status with our Facebook membership and are not even sure what exactly we might use such things for (we still struggle with timely friend acceptance), but far be it from us to deny those of you who have.
