It’s A Hair Band, Not A Headband

May 7, 2009  5:43 pm

From the woman who brought you “bangs over Botox” comes another money-saving beauty trick to keep you on trend and out of the red: hair bands. Suki Duggan of Donsuki Townhouse Salon has recently advocated using a strip of your own hair to get the look popularized by Gossip Girl’s Blair Waldorf, without the unlimited accessories budget that TV (and Upper East Side prep school) dreams are made of. So without further ado, step-by-step instructions from Duggan herself:

1. Measure out about two inches of hair on the right side of your head where your normal headband would be positioned.

2. Lay the piece flat across your head and secure underneath and behind your ear with a bobby pin.

3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 on the left side of your head.

It takes a little practice and some patience (we made more than one unsuccessful attempt at this before finally figuring it out), but it is a cute and easy style that affords plenty of room for personal interpretation. Tip: Braiding both sections before pinning makes for a great texturized look.
