Prada: The Juice Is Loose

Although Prada’s latest fragrance endeavor debuted last month, we only recently gave Infusion de Fleur d’Oranger a test run, partly out of loyalty to our signature scent, but also because the weather wasn’t quite up to par for a proper debut of the orange-blossom absolute elixir. The first perfume in Prada’s new Ephemeral Infusion Collection—a family of yearly, limited-edition fragrances derived from the brand’s Exclusive Scent range, which launched in 2003—this one screams for sun-drenched streets and warm breezes. So when spring was actually toying with the idea of showing up a few weeks back, we gave the spicy, citrus spray a go, compelled mostly by its Art Nouveau collectors’ box, which was inspired by a print from the Prada fabric archives. To our surprise, the pretty packaging was just the beginning. Neroli and mandarin oils are balanced by exotic jasmine essences and tuberose, the most carnal of the floral notes (which is frequently compared to the aroma of postcoital skin), yielding a certain feral freshness that is devoid of the overly sweet aftereffect common to other orange-tinged offerings. And so, we layered it with our go-to, frankincense hippie skin salve and took it on the backyard barbecue circuit, where it solicited more than a few “You smell really good!” comments from partygoers—and earned the coveted No. 2 spot in our summer scent arsenal.
