Chanel’s Tokyo Happening, Now Beyond Borders
June 9, 2009 11:48 am

When we first reported on the opening of Chanel’s inaugural beauty boutique in Tokyo, we filed the idea of a storefront devoted entirely to the brand’s cult fragrances, color collections, and skincare range in the “lust-worthy things we would like to partake of but will likely never have access to” compartment of our brain, along with a wardrobe of Balmain dresses, a selection of Balenciaga bags, and an Eames-era dinette set. But talk around the blogosphere this week is that Peter Philips’ limited-edition Tokyo Happening collection, which the Chanel artistic director of makeup created exclusively for the store’s launch in April, has become available for purchase stateside. The coffers of shimmering pastel face palettes, lip glosses, and nail lacquers have apparently already almost run dry, although word on the cyber street is that the supply will be replenished—and that the coveted items will hit retail boutiques in July. We’ll be waiting.
