Threading, In The Comfort Of Your Own Home

For anyone who’s made the switch to threading from waxing and is tired of spending the time and money on the depilatory service, prepare for some mind blowing. An at-home version of the ancient Indian hair removal technique is on the market, so you can rid yourself of that unfortunate five o’clock shadow on your terms (i.e., on the cheap and in private). Developed by aestheticians Anita Sun and Sara Maita, the Threader is engineered to replicate the exact angles used at salons to get results, rolling unwanted hair out at its follicle with quick twists of organic cotton-blended threads. Our first thought when we caught wind of this was marked excitement, followed quickly by a frightened shudder (if our trials and tribulations with at-home waxing kits are any indication, certain things are best left to trained professionals). But since threading is a safer alternative to waxing in that it avoids stripping skin, can be used in tandem with retinol products, and helps prevent ingrown hairs, the risk factor is slightly diminished. Plus, the tool comes with detailed instructions for use and a kit that includes chalk to make hair more visible, a numbing cream to reduce pain, and a soothing cream to close pores and protect skin afterward. It’s DIY beauty at its best.
