Stop The Lies In The Cosmetics Industry—Pick Up A Camera

July 14, 2009  12:04 pm

In an effort to further live by its “truth is beauty” mission statement, Cosmedicine has just announced an interactive way for customers to express their distaste for beautiful lies. The skincare brand, known for combining medical-grade ingredients with the most effective skincare technologies, is lashing out at the often ridiculous promises that other companies make to consumers by asking the visually inclined demographic of its fan base to submit videos—parodies of outlandish commercials that make lofty claims—for a chance to win $5,000. Its “Protest Beauty BS” campaign is intended to hammer home the idea of achieving the healthiest skin of your life, not someone else’s, i.e., digitally enhanced supermodels or actresses who only look perfect with the help of good camera angles and airbrushing. The contest begins on August 4 and will run through September 14. Click here for more information.

  1. I actually think actresses and models look better in candid pictures when they’re not digitally altered (I wouldn’t use the word enhanced). In some ads, the person is airbrushed so much they don’t even look like a real person. I don’t really find that beautiful to begin with.
