Acqua Di Parma Makes One For The Girls

As readers of this blog already know, I typically prefer men’s scents to women’s and tend to dabble in unisex offerings more than anything else. There are, of course, a few exceptions. Acqua di Parma’s wildly popular and undeniably feminine Iris Nobile was one of them when it launched back in 2004. I instantly fell in love with its strong anise undertones and soft powdery traces of iris petals. So when I recently received a bottle of the Italian brand’s first women’s endeavor in five years, I immediately put down my masculine go-to (all right, it’s L’Occitane’s Eau des Baux. Now you know) and gave the new fragrance a whirl. It’s a winner. Inspired by a single emblematic floral note, Magnolia Nobile takes its cues from the flower that grows in the gardens of the historic villas that line the shores of Lake Como. Bergamot, lemon, Bulgarian rose, and tuberose complement its sweetness, while a sensual woody accord with notes of patchouli, vetiver, sandalwood, and vanilla give it some substance. I have no intention of parting with my low-slung men’s jeans cutoffs anytime soon, but olfactorily speaking, I will be embracing my girly side. The fragrance is exclusively available at Neiman Marcus and Bergdorf Goodman this month and will begin selective distribution in September.
