RED ALGAE / (red-al-jee) /n./ 1. Also known as Rhodophyta, a type of marine vegetation that grows along the coastal and continental shelf areas of tropical, temperate, and cold-water regions and possesses a pigment that reflects red light and absorbs blue light; /n./ 2. Important in the primary establishment and maintenance of coral reefs as well as in Japanese nori production; /n./ 3.
