A Toast To Caudalie’s Premier Cru

September 23, 2009  1:42 pm

Unless you’re a wannabe sommelier, chances are you are unfamiliar with the term Premier Cru. It’s a classification created for the 1855 World’s Fair in Paris upon the request of Emperor Napoleon III that refers to a system devised by the then mayor of Bordeaux, intended to grade the product quality from specific vineyards, ranking them from first to fifth “cru.” Only five wines in the region were ever awarded the distinction of “premier.” To commemorate the 14 years since it burst onto the skincare scene with grapeseed polyphenols—the powerful antioxidant that we now know and love—Caudalie has developed their most precious skin salve yet, to which it has assigned the same designation. Premier Cru the cream, which debuted this month, combines the brand’s three signature patents in one ultimate corrective and preventative formula. It includes a molecule derived from grapevine sap, which has been slathered on by vintners for centuries as a means of combating red spots and dullness. There are also grapeseed polyphenols to protect from premature aging caused by free radicals, and grapevine reservatrol, which was stabilized by Caudalie in 1999 to defend against harmful environmental factors and ensure cellular longevity. Together, the trio reportedly increases skin density, provides a more even tone, smoothes wrinkles, and redefines contours. It’s a bit of a commitment; clinical trials suggest 56 days of use for visible results. But the addition of grapeseed and sesame oils, apricot butter, and aloe vera make the long run a luxurious one that leaves your skin noticeably more supple almost right away. If you really want to take the lavishness to the next level, head over to a Caudalie Vinothérapie Spa near you, where a two-hour facial—equipped with a decadent head, neck, and shoulder rubdown—has been designed around the product’s launch.
