Chris & Tell

-------

The day has finally come. After launching a viral contest to name the latest installment of its popular Pout-à-Porter designer series, in collaboration with Chris Benz, Lancôme just debuted its new pink lipstick at Benz’s Spring show. Aptly named Chris & Tell, the buildable shade has been an evolutionary process. “It started out as a nude, then we added orange, and then switched directions and went to pink,” Benz explained. “We actually premixed the final color in Elettra [Wiedemann]‘s kitchen before the Met Ball last year,” celebrity makeup artist Daniel Martin added, pointing out that the best thing about the rose hue is that you can control the opacity. “You can wear it light or almost neon—it looks different on everybody.” Martin used the pigment backstage to “dress up the face,” since the focus of Benz’s beauty look was on the skin. “We’re taking the girls on a skincare journey,” Martin said as he generously applied dollops of Lanôome Génifique for that perfect, Cheryl-Tiegs-on-the-cover-of-Sports-Illustrated complexion. “There’s an element of athleticism to the collection,” Benz pointed out, which led Martin to leave the skin fairly clean, “pump up the lashes” with Lancôme Hypnôse mascara, and really highlight the lip.
