Jonathan Saunders Draws First Blood

September 23, 2009  6:34 pm

If the influx of Twilight-inspired cosmetic products to recently hit shelves has taught us anything, it’s that the beauty world is not immune to the vampire trend that has, um, sunk its teeth into popular culture. Fashion has apparently fallen victim as well—at least that was the case at Jonathan Saunders’ Spring presentation yesterday, where models were primped to resemble “beautiful, sexy vampires,” according to makeup artist Lucia Pieroni. That meant a resurgence of Fall’s hard-to-pull-off bleached-brow look, accompanied by a mix of charcoal and brown eye shadows blended together in what Pieroni describes as “a sphere” on models’ lids. That appropriately pale, luminous skin characteristic of creatures of the night was achieved by mixing MAC’s Face and Body Foundation with its Strobe Cream, topped off with a white pigment that Pieroni swept onto the tops of the cheekbones and down the center of the nose for a proper moonlit glow. As for those perfect, blood-sucking pouts, Pieroni took down the lips with MAC Pro Lip Erase, then blended MAC Lip Pencils in Cherry and Currant with its Russian Red Lipstick only on the center of the mouth, for what she described as a “bitten” effect. Eat your heart out, Robert Pattinson.
