Germany Chooses Reality Over Runway, Comme’s New Collaborator, And More

Germany is on its way to one-upping France’s recent ban on airbrushing. To further combat unhealthy and unrealistic standards of beauty in the public media, the country’s most popular glossy, Brigitte, is planning to ban professional models from its pages in favor of “real women.” So, like the Dove “Real Beauty” campaign stars, in challenging runway pieces. Comme des Garçons has found its latest olfactory partner in the Finnish architectural firm Artek. Under the guise that “bottling the scent of chairs” just wouldn’t make sense, the eau de toilette, named Standard, comprises borealis flowers, tea, and metal for a melding of natural and industrial elements. Its flacon, however, is a tribute to clean lines and minimalism, obviously. [The Moment]

In other unlikely fragrance collaboration news, Simon Cowell will be branding his very own eau for the holiday season. Cowell and all the other judges on Britain’s popular The X Factor reality show are slated to release their own perfumes by Christmas. Unsurprisingly, Cowell has already declared that his will be the best of the bunch. [Telegraph]

Custom nail design is officially in this season, with moon manicures, marbling, and layering different lacquers dominating the trends. Not to toot our own horn, but we told you so. [L.A. Times]
