Rock & Republic Is Matte About Essie

OPI may have opted for a new, tech-savvy marketing approach with the announcement of its Dell laptop collab, but Essie Weingarten isn’t about to jump on any bandwagons to keep up with the competition. Instead, she’s sticking to what she knows best, that being nails and fashion. Weingarten, whose eponymous brand showed up backstage at Spring shows like Rag & Bone and Oscar de la Renta, has partnered with Rock & Republic president Andrea Bernholtz to bring the matte nail trend to denimwear for a complete no-shine look. After making a surprise cameo in the pages of the J.Crew catalog this year (and later landing in its stores nationwide), the polish junkie is spreading her sartorial wings even further. Weingarten helped create a capsule collection that includes Essie’s new Clearly Matte topcoat (repackaged with the R&R logo) as well as Rock & Republic’s Skinny Denim Fit jeans emblazoned with black lacquer spill detailing, and its Top Matte Tee, a slim-fit black jersey V-neck with red foil pocket detailing. The mini line launches today at the L.A.-based brand’s Robertson Boulevard store, and Bernholtz would be wise to snag Weingarten for another project ASAP. Nail polish is the one arena in which the company has yet to venture with its own cosmetic range, and it appears as though Weingarten’s fashion acolytes are starting to stack up.
