Serge Lutens, genius? If any beauty multi-hyphenate deserves the accolade, we think it’s him. The hair and makeup artist spent the 1960′s collaborating with luminaries like Richard Avedon and Irving Penn. Since then, he’s become a photographer himself, and seen his images hanging in the Guggenheim, as well as worked as an art director for the likes of Shiseido. And don’t forget the olfactory hits he’s been unleashing on the world for decades. This month, the perfumer’s releasing a new one: Fille en Aiguilles. A warm, heady blend of pine needles, sap, and vetiver, it manages to smell both familiar (I was reminded of Christmas trees and violin bow resin) and sophisticated. A feat, if you ask us, only someone like Monsieur Lutens could accomplish.
$140, at Barneys New York.
