Getting Somme Skin Saving

December 21, 2009  12:11 pm

Remember the argan-oil-plus-heavy-cream-moisturizer approach to combating dry skin I was touting a few weeks back? It worked well for a while, but not so much anymore. Once the initial flakiness subsided, the combination became too rich, prompting some unfortunate side effects (read: pesky breakouts that required constant attention with a concealer wand). Looking for an alternative, I took the advice of a beauty-blogging compatriot with amazing skin and sought out Somme Institute. Founded in the mid-nineties as a consortium of independent researchers and practicing dermatologists disappointed with the performance of existing skincare ranges, Somme is first and foremost a research company. Every product in the line is rooted in Molecular Dispersion Technology 5 (MDT5), a formulation of five highly engineered vitamins (A, B3, B5, C, and E) bound to proteins proven to be capable of reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, repairing sun damage, evening skin tone, treating acne, and improving skin texture. I started with the brand’s Five-Step Regimen, slightly altered since I can only really handle a three-step facial ritual—and I can’t say enough good things. The Nourishing Cleanser is non-foaming, so it cleanses without stripping my face of its essential oils; the vitamin-C-packed Serum seems to be improving my elasticity; and A-Bomb, a lightweight cream with high levels of vitamins A and E has definitely helped to soften my skin while also boosting its clarity. Seeing as how the range is intended to target “problem areas,” it’s also been keeping me pleasantly blemish-free, which is a much appreciated early Christmas gift.
