Glow Team! Jennifer Lopez Celebrates Her Famous Face Painter
Makeup artist Scott Barnes has made a name for himself as the man who gave J. Lo her glow. But it isn’t just Barnes’ sculpting, contouring, and highlighting abilities that give the pop queen her impeccable complexion. “Even before he puts a stitch of makeup on you, you feel beautiful. And that’s all him,” Lopez said last night at the Gansevoort Hotel, where she was joined by Kelly Rowland, Oribe, and Kat De Luna to celebrate Barnes’ new book About Face. The 240-page tome is as much about harnessing inner beauty as it is about technique and skin prep. “People always ask me, ‘How do I get the look?’ and that’s all in there, but I also wanted to use this book as way to encourage people to pay it forward,” Barnes told us. As such, four of Barnes’ celebrity clients, each of whom has a charitable foundation or is involved in a foundation, serve as contributors. Among the insider tricks that dot the glossy pages—like a great bit about melting your eye pencil with a lighter until it gets crumbly to get the perfect charcoal finish—there’s also a more serious message about skincare. Wearing SPF and staying out of the sun are a big part of Barnes’ manual, which is dedicated to his younger brother, whom he lost to melanoma a few years ago. A section on the do’s and don’ts of self tanner is also included, and serves as an endorsement for the new and improved Body Bling—his cult-favorite bronzing cream that now comes in handy tube form.
