Backstage at Giambattista Valli, A Nod to Mod

March 9, 2010  4:39 pm

To piggyback on our eye liner discussion from yesterday, we bring you backstage beauty from Giambattista Valli, where makeup artist Val Garland created a modern update on Jean Shrimpton’s mod-tastic, graphic peepers. Keeping models’ faces matte and their lips nude, Garland used a collection of taupe, gray, and brown eye shadows to create a smoky effect on lids. Then, using a black liquid liner like MAC’s Penultimate, she defined the upper lash line by dragging her pen out toward the temple before bringing it back in, creating an inverted “V” of sorts. For added dimension, Garland drew a single white line beneath her black flicks and added some drama with a double set of MAC’s Number 35 false lashes. And so the sixties hair movement that’s gaining steam for Fall makes its way to makeup.
