Streaks Of Genius Close Out Paris

After a few strong showings in New York, it seemed as though colored hair extensions would pick up where they left off last season, popping up on the runways—and on the street—with frequency in varying shades of purple, pink, and aqua. But their popularity slowed when the Fall shows moved to Europe, making us wonder if the trend would have legs come September. Hairstylist Guido Palau seems less uncertain, though, as he ended his Paris run with a bright bang at Miu Miu yesterday, weaving orange, magenta, black, and platinum strands into sleek ponytails. “It gives a futuristic feel, a very manga-doll look,” he surmised, coating the sides of models’ updos with Redken Hardwear 16 Super Strong Gel to prevent any possibility of flyaways. Makeup artist Pat McGrath was on the same tip, but she added a sixties flair to the face using a familiar mod eyeliner shape that entails painting a thick arch across the lid and underneath the lower lashline. To put her own unique spin on it, McGrath chose to eschew that era’s predictably graphic black-and-white color scheme in favor of orange and purple pigments, the two standout colors from Miuccia Prada’s collection. It made for a fun burst of energy—a nice way to end a season heavy on barefaced minimalism.
